Meeting of the Chapter Officers
July 28, 2021
Present: Kendra Nickel, President, Amy Ricker, Past President, Krista Richardson, Membership Director, Jeremy Monroe, Secretary/Treasurer, Jennifer Comer, Social Media/Website Chair, Cody Sanderson, Co-Programming Director, and Andrea Goings, Co-Programming Director.

Next meeting(s): Board Meeting – August 18, 2021 - 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (Zoom), Social Event – August 19th, 20201 (4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Old Barn Restaurant and Grill, Chapter Meeting – Speaker TBD - September 16th, 2021 - 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Old Barn Restaurant and Grill)
The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.
The agenda of the meeting is detailed below:
- Board meeting minutes from May 26th, 2021 meeting were reviewed and approved.
- Chair reports were provided:
- Secretary/Treasurer - $11,114.47 currently in chapter bank account. Awaiting 2021 dues payment from 1 new member who has been invoiced and sent a notice. A final notice will be sent in August if payment is not received.
- Membership – 54 active chapter members. 20 new members added in 2021!
- Discussion was held regarding using a listserve for member communication. Final decision was made to hold a Q&A session at the September meeting to answer outstanding member questions/issues. At the same meeting, ask members how they would like to handle future questions for the entire group.
- E-Blast went out at the end of June regarding the chapter’s Fall meetings and the membership discount for the remainder of 2021.
- Membership renewal campaign and communication for 2022 will begin in November 2021 and include a Referral bonus for current members to attract new membership.
- Programming – Upcoming meetings scheduled:
- August – Social Event – planned for August 19th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Old Barn Restaurant and Grill. 10 members are currently registered.
- September – Matt Huffman is no longer available for this meeting. Reached out to Bob Cupp’s office for his availability. Reviewing other possible speaker options.
- October – Employee and Labor Relations – Bob Bethel from Employers’ Resource Association.
- November – Legal Update (Mindi Wells). Scheduled from 8am – Noon at Rhodes State. Decision made to charge non-members $50 for this session. Board agreed to pay speaker a $1,250 fee for this meeting.
- December – Social Event – details to be determined after information is gathered from August Social Event.
- Email blast is planned soon to publicize the Chapter’s Fall calendar of events.
- General discussion over planning for 2022 chapter meeting presenters to possible include “The Colonel’s Daughter.”
- Social Media / Website –
- Discussed new logo designs. Jennifer to review with designer to get colors to match the SHRM Affiliate logo.
- As recommended by Jennifer, the Board agreed to eliminate the Facebook posts to advertise to potential new members and focus on the LinkedIn page.
- Discussion was held regarding posting of open HR positions on the chapter website. Members can post for free and non-members could post for a fee (amount to be determined). Board agreed to the concept but need a way to collect non-member fees. Kendra to investigate setting up a chapter Venmo account.
- President –
- Board members should be regularly reviewing our Gmail account. Recently received an inquiry from a speaker interested in presenting to the chapter.
- Chapter bylaw changes have been approved by National SHRM! Plan is to ask members to vote 1 time for new logo and bylaw changes at the October chapter meeting.
- Opportunity for dual members of local chapter and National SHRM to receive a complimentary (5 available) exam seat for SHRM certification. This information as well as details on the Edison State College exam prep course will be shared with members.
- Past President –
- Chapter Meeting Sponsorships – sponsor letter drafts have been completed. Will be sent to Board members for review. After letters are approved, determination will be made on who to target for this communication.
- Old Business
- None.
- New Business
- Board positions for 2022-2023 were discussed. Goal is to vote on new Board members at the October chapter meeting. Possible open Board positions include; Co-Programming Chair, and Vice President / President-Elect.
- Nominations and/or self-nominations will be sent out to members to solicit potential interest in open Board positions.
- Due to an out-of-state HR Conference, Kendra and Jeremy may be unavailable to attend the October chapter meeting. Amy Ricker, Past President, will run the October meeting in Kendra’s absence.
