Topic: Ethics (Will satisfy HRCI Ethics Credit Requirement)

    Speaker: Dr. J. Alex Sider

Dr. J. Alex Sider is the Harry and Jean Yoder Scholar in Bible and Religion at Bluffton University (Bluffton, OH), where he also directs Peace and Conflict Studies and unviersity assessment programs. He received his Ph.D. in ethics from Duke University (Durham, NC) and has worked as a non-scientist/ethicist for the Institutional Review Boards at Duke University Medical Center and Blanchard Valley Health System (Findlay, OH). His research interests include the biopsychological dimensions of moral discernment and the intersections of disability studies, medical ethics, and religion.

    Learning objectives:

    1. Identify, define, and apply basic concepts and distinctions in moral philosophy (e.g., rules/consequences, good/right, duty) relevant to professional ethics settings.
    2.  Examine the role of the HR professional in the context of encounters between compliance-based and character-based ethics in professional settings.
