Meeting of the Chapter Officers
August 18, 2021
Present: Kendra Nickel, President, Krista Richardson, Membership Director, Jeremy Monroe, Secretary/Treasurer, Jennifer Comer, Social Media/Website Chair, Cody Sanderson, Co-Programming Director, and Andrea Goings, Co-Programming Director.

Next meeting(s): Social Event – August 19th, 20201 (4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. @ Old Barn Restaurant and Grill, Chapter Meeting – Member Roundtable Discussion - September 16th, 2021 - 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (via Zoom), September Board Meeting – moved to 9/29 @ 8:30 a.m. (via Zoom)
The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.
The agenda of the meeting is detailed below:
- Board meeting minutes from July 28, 2021 meeting were reviewed and approved.
- Chair reports were provided:
- Secretary/Treasurer - $11,114.47 currently in chapter bank account. Pending transaction of $130 from National SHRM would bring account to $11,244.47. Final member yet to submit dues payment took another job outside the area and will no longer be a member.
- Membership – 53 active chapter members. 19 new members added in 2021!
- Chapter audit was submitted to National SHRM on 8/6/21. Lima SHRM will receive $25.00 bonus payment for each new member who is a member of both National and Lima SHRM.
- Received email from Nutrien employee interested in taking advantage of the free certification exam program through Lima SHRM.
- Programming – Upcoming meetings scheduled:
- August – Social Event – planned for August 19th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Old Barn Restaurant and Grill. 14 members are currently registered.
- September – Member roundtable discussion is planned for this meeting. Session will be scheduled from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. via Zoom.
- October – Employee and Labor Relations – Bob Bethel from Employers’ Resource Association.
- November – Legal Update (Mindi Wells). Scheduled from 8am – Noon at Rhodes State. Decision made to charge non-members $50 for this session. Board agreed to pay speaker a $1,250 fee for this meeting.
- December – Social Event – details to be determined after information is gathered from August Social Event.
- Email announcement of chapter Fall meeting schedule will be sent in the coming week.
- General discussion over planning for 2022 chapter meeting presenters to possible include “The Colonel’s Daughter” to kick off the year with a keynote speaker.
- Social Media / Website –
- New logo design and colors were approved. Board approved payment of $150 to Brock Sharp who designed new chapter logo.
- Decision was made to shift away from LinkedIn group to a chapter LinkedIn page going forward.
- Plan to communicate the membership discount through the end of 2021 via social media platforms was discussed.
- President –
- Board agreed to hold member vote on new bylaws, new logo and future Board nominations at the October chapter meeting.
- Plan to begin discussions on 2022 1st Quarter Programming ideas at the next Board meeting.
- Venmo account for chapter has been established. Still need to connect to chapter bank account. Fees will apply (1.9% plus $.10 per transaction) when using Venmo account. Board agreed convenience of offering this payment option to members is worth forfeiting the $1.30 per every member choosing to pay in this fashion.
- Past President –
- Chapter Meeting Sponsorships – sponsor letter drafts were emailed to the Board prior to meeting. Board to review letters and provide feedback to finalize letters.
- Old Business
- None.
- New Business
- Board positions for 2022-2023 were discussed. Goal is to vote on new Board members at the October chapter meeting. Kendra would prefer current Board member to serve as Vice President / President-Elect. Andrea agreed to appear on voting slate to renew her term as Co-Programming Director.
- Kendra and Jeremy will now be available to attend the October chapter meeting as the other conference has been delayed until Spring 2022.
